Nine Lies Team

Nine Lies are five musicians from Northern Ireland who have played together since 2004. Here is who does what in the band, with links to each member’s full profile in their own words. For the full history of the band, read the Nine Lies biography.

Stevie Mann – lead vocals, lyrics and production

Stevie founded Nine Lies in 2003 and calls himself “the architect” of the band. He writes most of the lyrics – many of them in his car at Sprucefield – and records and mixes most of the band’s music. He co-produced the 2015 album 9 Lies with Stuart Epps. Read Stevie Mann’s profile.

Dave Kernohan – guitar and backing vocals

Davey grew up close to Belfast and started playing on his dad’s old acoustic guitar at around ten, in the days when Blur and Oasis ruled the radio. After playing in many local bands he met the members who would become Nine Lies, and he says his favourite part of the band is the mix of musical tastes everyone brings. Nick Black – guitar

Nick played in several bands with Stevie before Nine Lies. He sticks to guitar – mainly Ibanez and ESP, through Marshall, Soldano and JCA amps – and admits to being a bit of a gear head. Read Nick Black’s profile.

John Rossi – bass guitar and backing vocals

John has played with Iain Archer, Snow Patrol, The Vals and Peacefrog, on bass, synth, guitar and keys. He has a home studio with vintage synths, including a Moog Rogue and a Roland Juno 60, and is interested in producing other artists too. Read John Rossi’s profile.

Stoogie (Stephen McAuley) – drums

Stoogie is from Ballycastle on the north-east coast of Northern Ireland and has played drums since he was 15. He joined the band in spring 2004 – when they were still called Last Giants – after Davey messaged him on a local music forum. Read Stoogie’s profile.

How the band works together

Songs on releases such as the Nothin’ Left For Me EP are credited to all five members. Stoogie records drum parts in his home setup and sends the files to Stevie to mix, and John and Stevie both bring production experience to the studio.
